It originated with Sonya Avelino who was born in New Zealand. The concert had started out as raising funds for her home country, but with the recent earthquake causing mass destruction in Japan, the fundraiser quickly became aimed at also raising funds for Japan. Bud Sakamoto and the Steveston community will be working through our Steveston's sister city Wakayama City to help Onagawa, a town in Japan that was hit hard. Sonya contacted her friend Cherelle Jardine who quickly came on board as the musical director for the event. "It wasn't too hard to find performers that wanted to help" Cherelle says. Performers for the show include, Norman Avelino, Edgar Avelino, Arlene Hewitt, Les Finnigan, Greg Meloche and the Jardines. The concert will be held at Fraserview Church at 11295 Mellis Drive, Richmond. Tickets are available at the door, Saturday April 9th. Doors open at 7.00pm and music starts at 7.30pm. All proceeds go to the earthquakes funds. For more information, contact cherellejardine@shaw.ca For more information, please visit www.cherellejardine.com
